Just to let you know I am true lover of handstripping as we have a Wirehaired Dachshund, Winston, at home.
Handstripping is ideal for wirehaired and silky coats and gives a truly nature finish to the coat.
Hand stripping is removing the dead off the top coat at Spruced Up we use the finger plucking technique. When you remove the top coat with this method new hair will emerge from the hair follicle in its place and will be thicker and have more vibrant colour.
Why not just clip the dog down?
When you clip off a wirehaired or silky coat you are taking all the colour out and leaving the under coat, which is soft, thin, and dull. Every time you clip the dog down the coat will continue to get softer and softer. The coat will also need clip on more regular basis every 6- 8 week compared to handstripping every 4-6 months.
Due to the significant time needed as it’s a highly labour intensive and many groomers don’t offer this service; hand stripping is charged at an hourly rate at Spruced Up.
